Connecting with nature, each other and our deeper selves helps us find strength, inspiration and wisdom.
Perhaps we should really say “re-connect” as these connections are not ones we must create for the first time, but ancient ties that have been laying dormant for too long and must be rediscovered. In particular, rediscovering and exploring our connection with nature helps us locate ourselves in space and time, find a feeling of greater belonging, and appreciate the beauty and delicate interconnectedness of life on Earth.
Connecting with nature, each other, and ourselves also helps us to Stay Awake without falling into denial or nihilism. It gives us the support and motivation to step outside of our individual spheres of life and create change.
“A human being is a part of the whole called by us “universe”, a part limited in time and space. We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of our consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”
– Albert Einstein
